KDE Gear 26.08 brings improvements to Okular, Dolphin, Konsole, Kdenlive, Minuet, and more

KDE Gear 26.08 has been released, introducing updates across a wide range of applications developed by the KDE community. This release brings user-facing changes and workflow enhancements that affect popular apps and supporting libraries.

Among the highlights, Okular, the document reader, now features improved signing for a more secure and streamlined experience. Text selection has been enhanced, allowing triple-click to select an entire line. Annotations become more interactive, as any highlighted or underlined text is automatically included in notes, and users can copy or paste annotations within the same document or to another one.

Following changes in Okular, Dolphin, the file manager, strengthens KDE Connect integration and adds flexibility for sorting and grouping files independently. Users can order files by name and group them by type. In addition, new tab management options allow closing tabs to the left, right, or both, improving navigation.

Alongside these, Konsole, KDE’s terminal emulator, supports enhanced drag-and-drop actions for files, links, emails, and color codes between applications and the terminal. For creative workflows, Kdenlive has received interface polishing across effects, the timeline, and titles. Lastly, Minuet now offers a refreshed interface that adapts seamlessly to both desktop and mobile screens for music education.
