Windscribe releases deGDID tool to remove and block Windows GDID

Recent weeks have brought renewed scrutiny of Windows privacy after reports highlighted how Microsoft's Global Device Identifier (GDID) can be linked to user activity during investigations. GDID is a Microsoft-issued installation identifier that can link device, account, and network activity.

In response, Windscribe has introduced deGDID, a PowerShell tool designed to remove local Global Device Identifier data from compatible unmanaged Windows systems and block new GDID creation.

deGDID uses hosts file modifications and firewall rules to block registration paths and wipes known identity artifacts, but intentionally avoids managed or corporate environments.
