Windscribe VPN adds IPv6 Egress support for WireGuard Pro locations

Windscribe VPN now supports IPv6 egress, allowing users to route IPv6 traffic through the VPN tunnel on compatible Pro locations. This changes the previous approach, where IPv6 traffic was blocked to prevent leaks or traffic bypassing the tunnel. With the update, websites and apps may now detect a Windscribe IPv6 address instead of only an IPv4 address.

IPv6 support is rolling out by location and is currently limited to WireGuard. If a selected location doesn't support IPv6, Windscribe automatically falls back to IPv4 while keeping the VPN connection protected. Users can enable it by setting Egress to Auto under Preferences, Connection, and IP Stack, although this is now the default setting.

The feature requires Windscribe 2.23.4 or later on Windows, macOS, and Linux, 4.0 on Android, or 3.10.1 on iOS. IPv6 routing is not available in browser extensions, OpenVPN, or IKEv2 custom configs, while manual WireGuard configs include IPv6 addresses that only work on supported locations. Users can check availability through the Windscribe IP checker or Garry, the company’s support chatbot. The update also allows access to IPv6-only websites, may reduce CAPTCHA prompts in some cases, and can improve peer discovery for peer-to-peer apps when IPv6 peers are available.
