Waze launches several Gemini-powered AI features and a new Motorcycle mode
Waze is adding several AI features powered by Google’s Gemini models, including a new "Motorcycle mode", conversational map reporting, and personalized route recommendations. The new Motorcycle mode adapts navigation for those vehicles by considering specific route options and hazards such as speed bumps, potholes, shoulder endings, and narrow bridges. It combines real time traffic data with updates from map editors focused on motorcycle navigation and is initially launching in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines.
Waze will also suggest routes based on previous trips and driving patterns alongside its standard traffic calculations, meaning it will more actively analyze your personal travel habits, though users can disable these personalized recommendations. Conversational Reporting now lets drivers suggest map updates simply by talking to the chatbot. In addition to existing reports such as police activity or accidents, users can now report issues like road closures and outdated addresses. The feature is rolling out globally on Android and iOS.
There's also a Less Chatty mode that reduces spoken prompts to focus on essential directions and reminders. Gemini voice search also lets users describe the type of destination they need, such as an open coffee shop, nearby parking, or an affordable gas station. Voice search is rolling out globally to Waze beta users, while route personalization, Less Chatty mode, and Conversational Reporting are becoming available worldwide.
