Spotify introduces personalized running mode with tempo-matched playlists and workout cues
Spotify is launching a running mode, delivering a personalized running experience that transforms playlists into tailored sessions based on user goals, music preferences, and tempo. Available starting today for premium users on iOS in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, running mode can be accessed through Spotify's fitness hub.
After entering the fitness hub, users can choose from 25 curated running presets and further customize their workout by selecting type, duration, beats per minute, and preferred music genre. Pressing play activates personalized music playback, where Spotify matches tracks' beats to the chosen tempo and blends songs for a smoother, more motivating workout soundtrack.
Alongside music personalization, running mode offers optional audio cues in English to help guide workouts, providing motivation without interrupting the listening experience. This feature is designed to minimize the time users spend searching for suitable workout music, making it easier for runners, walkers, and joggers to stay active.
Building on Spotify's other fitness offerings, the new mode complements existing content such as Peloton classes and creator workout videos available on the platform.
