OpenAI Codex launches Plugins and Sites for hosted interactive vibe coding apps & websites
OpenAI has announced major updates to Codex, its platform for AI-assisted coding, starting with the integration of full Codex functionality directly into the main ChatGPT app, removing the need for a separate Codex platform, while expanding Codex beyond developers into enterprise workflows such as research, document creation, dashboards, prototypes, and internal tools. OpenAI says knowledge workers now represent about 20% of Codex users, with adoption growing three times faster than among developers.
The company also introduced Agent Plugins, which connect Codex with role-specific apps, context, instructions, and workflows. Six plugins are launching first, covering data analytics, creative production, sales, product design, public equity investing, and investment banking. Together, they support 62 apps and 110 skills, with options for organizations to customize them for internal workflows. OpenAI is also working on plugins for corporate finance, private equity investing, marketing strategy, strategy consulting, and legal, and plans to let partners create and deploy plugins directly in Codex and ChatGPT.
OpenAI also announced Sites, a Codex feature for creating and sharing interactive hosted websites and apps through workspace URLs. Unlike static documents or presentations, Sites can keep updating as project details change, and the feature is now available in preview for Business and Enterprise customers, with partners including Wix, Figma, Webflow, Replit, Lovable, Base44, and Emergent. Codex annotations are also expanding beyond code, Markdown files, and websites to documents, spreadsheets, and slides, allowing users to request targeted edits without regenerating an entire file.
