Anthropic launches Claude Design, a new design tool for prompt based visual prototypes

Anthropic has introduced Claude Design, a new experimental tool that lets users create visual prototypes using natural language prompts. You can think of it as an AI vibe coding tool like Lovable, but not limited to web platforms, as it also supports slide decks and other design assets, aimed at users without formal design training who need a faster way to turn ideas into visuals without starting in traditional design software.

After generating an initial visual, Claude Design lets users refine it through direct edits or new prompts. Users can adjust things like colors, typography, and features such as a dark mode toggle. The tool also supports uploads of codebases and design files, allowing teams to build and maintain real design systems that apply company specific colors, typography, and other visual elements across projects.

While Claude Design may initially look like a competitor to other AI design tools like Adobe Firefly, Google Stitch, or Canva, Anthropic says it is meant to complement them rather than replace them. In fact, the launch was announced alongside Canva, whose CEO highlighted how projects can be exported from Claude Design into Canva, where they become fully editable and collaborative. Users can also export assets as PDFs, URLs, or PowerPoint files. Powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Design is currently available in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, with no free access for now. Even so, the launch appears to have unsettled some of the market, with Figma’s stock falling about 7% after the announcement.
