Claude now integrates with Google Workspace to edit your Google Docs, Sheets & Slides docs

Anthropic has announced that its AI assistant Claude is now available directly within Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, marking a significant expansion of the company's enterprise offerings. The new Claude for Google Workspace integration, released in public beta on October 6, 2026, allows teams using Google Workspace to work with Claude directly inside their files or create and edit Google documents from within the Claude chat interface. The feature is available on all paid Claude plans, with administrators able to deploy the extension to specific domains or groups through the Google Admin console.

The integration operates through two complementary components: a Google Workspace Marketplace add-on and a set of Claude connectors. Users can install the add-on and access Claude via a sidebar next to their active file, enabling the AI to read document content, respond to selections, and make changes without switching applications. In Google Docs, Claude can perform inline edits or propose changes through suggestion cards. For Sheets, it offers formula writing, pivot table creation, and data cleaning capabilities using Python. In Slides, the assistant can generate new slides matching existing deck layouts and flag formatting issues such as overlapping elements or illegible text.

Enterprise customers receive additional security controls including compliance API access, customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK), and OpenTelemetry audit logging, which extend to the new workspace integration. The connectors also respect existing Google file-sharing permissions, meaning Claude's access aligns with organizational authorization structures. While currently in beta, Anthropic indicates this represents a strategic move toward meeting organizations where they work most frequently, within collaborative productivity platforms rather than isolated chat windows.
