Google is sunsetting its official Weather app for Wear OS 6 and newer
Google is discontinuing its Weather app for smartwatches running Wear OS 6 and newer, which are based on Android 16. New installations from the Google Play Store will no longer be possible once a device updates to Wear OS 6, though users who already had the app installed can continue using it. Watches running Wear OS 5 or earlier remain unaffected and can still download the app.
On Pixel Watch models, the change will be handled automatically, with users moving to the Pixel Weather app when upgrading to Wear OS 6 or higher. The replacement app keeps a similar layout but introduces Google’s Material 3 Expressive design.
For third-party devices from brands like Samsung, OnePlus, and Mobvoi, the app will disappear from the Play Store on Wear OS 6, unless it was installed before the update. Google advises affected users to rely on third party alternatives, manufacturer-provided options, or request forecasts through Google Assistant or Google Gemini on Wear OS 3 and above.

Yes, makes sense. AI should better know about weather than a simple API connected to the biggest forecast supercomputers around the world. And what a pleasure to get the weather from a metallic voice-over with many seconds of latency instead of stupid colorful icons and clear displayed temperature.
