Google has started rolling out its Gemini AI assistant to Google TV devices today

Google has announced that it is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to Google TV, introducing conversational AI to televisions. The rollout begins today with the TCL QM9K series and will later expand to other devices powered by Google TV and Android TV OS.

Gemini will allow users to use natural language conversations to search for shows or movies using vague descriptions, request recaps of missed episodes or seasons, and explore trending titles based on genre preferences. The company has also highlighted that standard Google Assistant features such as playback control and app launching remain supported, but Gemini adds more context by offering ratings and reviews to help guide viewing choices.

The AI assistant will not be limited to TV-related functions but will also handle most of the tasks it already performs on other devices like the web or smartphones, such as answering general knowledge questions with responses shown as text, read aloud, and often accompanied by related YouTube content. It can be activated with the “Hey Google” command or the TV remote’s microphone button. Following its debut on the TCL QM9K, support will expand to the Google TV Streamer 4K, Walmart Onn 4K Pro, and upcoming 2025 Hisense and TCL models, ultimately reaching more than 300 million devices worldwide.

Mmm, an Asian man and a black woman. Healing some racial divisions? Good ad. Idk about the product.

Why does that feels useless?

You can disable Voice Commands in Google TV settings. However, it also disables App search function.

Great, I now can add "talking to my TV" on my list of stupid things that I hoped it would never existed, next to recharging my watch, writing with my finger and folding my phone. I'm still missing "looking at my glasses" since the total Google Glass failure, but I'm pretty confident Facebook will soon allow me to complete my list.

Oh I think you won’t have to wait too long for the glasses, I’m pretty sure the latest Meta Ray Ban model will do a lot to push their popularity
