Fedora Linux 43 Beta released with kernel 6.17, GNOME 49, KDE 6.4, and updated toolchains

Fedora Project has released the public beta of Fedora Linux 43, based on the upcoming Linux kernel 6.17. Fedora Workstation ships with GNOME 49, while the KDE edition includes KDE Plasma 6.4. More Fedora Spins now use the Anaconda WebUI installer, Fedora Kinoite enables automatic updates by default, and the installer moves to DNF 5 for package management. Fedora Workstation also adopts a Wayland-only GNOME session, dropping X11 fallback.

The release updates core toolchains with GCC 15.2, GNU Binutils 2.45, GNU C Library 2.42, GDB 17.1, LLVM 21, Golang 1.25, Perl 5.42, RPM 6.0, and Python 3.14. System components such as PostgreSQL 18, MySQL 8.4, Dovecot 2.4, Ruby on Rails 8.0, and Tomcat 10.1 are also upgraded.

Fedora 43 adds COLRv1 support in Noto Color Emoji fonts, introduces the Hare programming language, and provides automatic onboarding to Packit release automation. Deprecated components are being retired, including gtk-rs bindings and the python-nose package, to improve security and maintainability. The stable release of Fedora Linux 43 is expected in late October or by November 11 of this year.
