Beeper relaunches with On-Device model, new features, and Text.com merged services
Beeper has relaunched its all-in-one messaging app, unveiling a redesigned on-device architecture and expanded features one year after its $125 million acquisition by Automattic. The updated platform merges Beeper and Texts.com offering users nearly all capabilities from both products in a single interface. The core upgrade shifts from Beeper Cloud to an on-device model for direct, private communication with messaging networks and maintains end-to-end encryption at a level comparable to official apps, according to Beeper’s CEO.
Following the merger, Beeper now supports a wide array of major services: WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, X, Telegram, Signal, Matrix, Slack, Google Chat, Discord, LinkedIn, and Google Messages. Messages is available to macOS users, although Apple has previously challenged such integrations. The relaunch also introduces tiered subscriptions: Beeper Plus expands access to 10 messaging services and adds functions including message scheduling, chat reminders, incognito message reading, support for multiple accounts, AI-powered voice note transcriptions using OpenAI's Whisper, and custom app icons. Beeper Plus Plus, designed for businesses, unlocks unlimited accounts.
While legacy Beeper users who paid to bypass the early waitlist receive lifetime access to Plus features, existing users benefit from free access for up to 12 accounts. Automattic also plans to integrate its Clay personal contact manager into Beeper to improve unified data management.
