Figma launches Dev Mode MCP server for direct AI access to design data

Figma is rolling out its new Dev Mode Model Context Protocol (MCP) server in beta, allowing large language models (LLMs) and coding tools to access detailed design data directly from Figma. This release targets users with Dev or Full seat access and marks a shift in how AI can interpret and generate fully coded applications from designs.

The MCP server enables AI models to retrieve specific design information, such as numerical data for graphs and the exact color shades used in projects. This direct pipeline reduces the need for visual guesswork, letting coding agents such as GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code, Cursor, Windsurf Editor and Claude Code, produce applications that align more precisely with designers’ intentions. Figma expects this integration to reduce the computational load on machine learning models by making design-to-code translation more efficient.

Alongside the MCP server, Figma confirmed that its Figma Make platform, which turns natural language prompts into code for working applications, is now available to all Full seat customers. Looking ahead, Figma plans to expand the MCP server's feature set by introducing remote server access and more robust codebase integration in the coming months.
