DEVONthink 4 “Copernicus” adds AI model integration, automatic versioning & smarter search

DEVONthink 4.0 “Copernicus” is now available for iOS and macOS, offering a platform for users to collect, organize, and manage different types of data. A key addition in this release is generative artificial intelligence support, allowing users to integrate models like ChatGPT, Claude, Mistral AI, or locally installed options through Ollama or LM Studio. Users can summarize texts in chat, assign tags, interactively query documents, perform natural language searches, generate images, and embed AI-driven actions into their automated workflows.

Additionally, DEVONthink 4 introduces automatic versioning when editing documents, making it possible to restore previous states. Audit-proof databases now prevent unauthorized changes and log document deletions. Team environments will also benefit from the completely redesigned DEVONthink 4 Server web interface, optimized for collaborative work.

Search functionality has also been improved, now finding PDF files without needing prior optical character recognition (OCR). Users can explore document relationships visually through the new interactive Graph inspector. Following these updates, automations can now include AI actions and utilize new triggers, actions, and placeholders, with the option to save recurring batch workflows for later reuse. DEVONthink 4 also adopts a new license model, granting purchasers a year of updates to enable more frequent releases.
