Proton Drive adds albums with end-to-end encryption and privacy controls
Proton Drive has launched a new Albums feature, enabling users to organize and share photos and videos securely in custom collections. Unlike the traditional folder system, Albums allow for flexible grouping and sharing of media files, allowing users to create curated groups of photos or videos for easy access to favorite memories. Building on its reputation for strong privacy, Proton Drive ensures that every photo, video and album name are protected by end-to-end encryption, covering both the images themselves and key metadata such as location information.
Users can share Albums by inviting family or friends via email and have the option to grant or revoke access at any time for improved privacy control. Real-time syncing keeps shared Albums up-to-date for all participants, while the ability to mark images as favorites makes it easier to locate cherished content quickly in a dedicated space.
In contrast with competing services like Google Photos or Microsoft OneDrive, Proton Drive aims to offer an alternative focused on privacy and security through end-to-end encryption and by preventing your data from being scanned for ads or AI training. Albums are now accessible to all Proton Drive subscribers, both on desktop and mobile devices. For new users, Proton Drive Plus provides access to Albums with 200 GB of encrypted storage.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Proton and I'm a premium user, but I would prefer to invest my time in Immich. Moved away from Google Photos not to nestle into another walled garden.
Immich is wonderful. I tried Proton Drive for a "Photos" experience and found it to be too slow.
