Microsoft launches new People and File Search tools for Microsoft 365 users in desktop app
Microsoft has introduced two new companion apps for the Microsoft 365 Copilot desktop app on Windows 11: the People app and the File Search app. These apps are designed to improve contact management and file discovery for Microsoft 365 subscribers within their organization.
The new People app (or hub) somewhat resembles the already discontinued Windows 8 People app, but this version focuses more on helping users find and learn about contacts within their organization. It offers profile cards, organizational charts, quick access to Teams messaging, and search by job title, department, location, or project. The File Search app improves file discovery with searches for recent files within the company, filters by type, and content-based lookup. It includes previews for easy verification. Both apps integrate with Microsoft 365 tools like Microsoft Teams and Microsoft OneDrive.
It’s worth noting that these new tools only work through the Microsoft 365 Copilot desktop app, available via the Microsoft Store, and access is limited to Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise subscribers in the Insider (Beta Channel) program for now.
