Open source YouTube client NewPipe releases v0.27.6 with some enhancements and bug fixes
NewPipe, the open-source Android application for streaming videos and music from platforms like YouTube, SoundCloud, PeerTube, Bandcamp, and more, has launched version 0.27.6. This hotfix addresses several YouTube-related issues, including the iOS player response is not valid error that previously blocked video loading, HTTP 403 errors at the 1:09 timestamp, and missing video streams at 720p resolution and 24–30 FPS. Some age-restricted videos are also now accessible, though extraction methods remain unreliable.
A notable change is that YouTube requests now require device or browser integrity checks, handled by the system WebView. Devices lacking a functional WebView may experience HTTP 403 errors due to fallback extraction methods. The update also introduces support for poTokens for YouTube, converts error report timestamps to ISO format, and includes various enhancements and bug fixes, particularly related to captions.
