Proton launches cost-effective 'Proton Duo' sub tier for couples with encrypted services

Proton has introduced a new plan called "Proton Duo," specifically designed for couples. This plan includes encrypted Proton Mail, Proton VPN, encrypted cloud storage for files and photos with Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar. Proton Duo offers 1TB of shared encrypted cloud storage for two users, each having their own encrypted email address and secure browsing via Proton’s VPN.

Priced at $19.99 per month, Proton Duo is more cost-effective than two individual Proton Unlimited plans, which are $12.99 each per month. For a limited time, Proton Duo is available at $14.99 per month or $178.88 per year, saving $60 annually compared to the regular price of two separate plans. Customers who sign up during this discount period will keep the reduced rate indefinitely.

In addition, Proton has recently released the Proton Pass password manager for macOS and Linux, with the latest update adding support for Microsoft's Windows Hello biometric authentication on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs.

This is pretty solid value if both partners want their own custom email domain and want to share 1TB. I'm a huge fan of Proton's ecosystem, but I have two major complaints about Proton Drive. They have a MacOS and Windows "file sync" app to auto-upload, but NO LINUX! WHY??? Come on, guys. Upload speed is fine, but pulling down images and videos is like watching paint dry, even on the fastest connections. I get that encryption and storage in Europe is partially responsible for that, but it is unusable at current speeds. That's my experience. I have no other serious complaints about any of their other apps.

Yeah. Been really tempted to subscribe to ultimate, but I only use Linux, and it definitely doesn't get a treatment of the same quality as the other systems. Bummed out about that, wonder how many people feel the same and how many potential paying customers Proton is losing because of that.
