KDE Gear 24.08 released: major enhancements across Dolphin, Konsole, Kdenlive, and more
The KDE Project has announced the release of KDE Gear 24.08, the latest stable version of its open-source software suite tailored for the KDE Plasma desktop environment. This update brings several notable enhancements and new features across multiple applications within the suite.
Key updates include significant improvements to the Dolphin File Manager, which now provides easier access to files requiring administrative privileges, introduces new software installation wizards, and adds a “Move to New Folder…” feature. The Konsole terminal emulator now supports bookmarking for long outputs, while the Kdenlive video editor benefits from a keyframe curve editor, a redesigned effects stack widget, and enhancements to the Transform effect.
Additional updates feature the Kate text editor, which now offers better document formatting and support for languages such as Gleam and PureScript via LSP. The Kongress conference app adds support for indoor venue maps, and the Falkon web browser introduces site-specific privacy and functionality settings. Chat clients Neochat and Tokodon receive safety and user management enhancements.
Other notable improvements include enhanced fillable PDF compatibility and zoom functionality in the Okular document viewer, a “Play this next” feature in the Elisa music player, and the ability to block sponsored sections in videos via the PlasmaTube app.
