Spellcheck and Autocorrect for Notepad in Windows 11 starting to roll out to some users

Back in March, we reported that Microsoft was testing new spellcheck and autocorrect features for the Notepad app, and now these features seem to be starting to become available to mainstream Windows Notepad users on Windows 11.

Microsoft has not yet officially announced the new version of Notepad. It is speculated that the company might wait for a broader rollout before making an official announcement. The new features will underline potentially misspelled words in red and provide autocorrect options, similar to other text applications like Microsoft Word. These spellchecking features are enabled by default but can be disabled in the settings.

The new spellchecking features in Notepad likely aim to offer users a free text editor with some word-processing functionalities that were previously available in WordPad, which Microsoft announced will be deprecated after 28 years of use. The company plans to remove WordPad from Windows 11 with the upcoming version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025
