Files 3.5 Released with Dual Pane improvements, new Network Locations widget & more
The latest version of Files, a popular third-party alternative to the default File Explorer for Windows, has been released. Files 3.5 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store and the official website. This update brings several design improvements, including more rounded corners for UI elements to ensure consistency across the toolbar, content area, and preview pane. Dual Pane mode now features a more visible shadow for the active pane, aiding user navigation and multitasking.
Enhanced tooltips now provide additional information when hovering over pictures, such as image dimensions, file name, type, modify date, and size. Batch file editing is simplified with a new "Edit in Notepad" button on the toolbar. A new network location widget has been added to the Home page, facilitating easier access to network drives. Users can now close the left pane in Dual Pane mode, offering more control over the interface layout.
The update also includes a Microsoft OneDrive sync status indicator, providing better cloud storage management, and video file durations are now displayed in the Details pane for quick reference. Files 3.5 also features improvements in crash reporting and metrics, enhancing overall stability and user feedback. The app is priced at $8.99 on the Microsoft Store, supporting the developer, but it remains available for free on the official website.
