Debian 12.6 Bookworm released with Linux 6.1 LTS kernel, bug fixes, and security updates
The Debian Project has released Debian 12.6, the latest update to the Debian GNU/Linux 12 "Bookworm" series, arriving four and a half months after Debian 12.5. This version is powered by the Linux 6.1 LTS kernel, which will be supported until December 2026. The update provides refreshed installation media for new hardware to minimize post-installation updates.
Debian 12.6 addresses 162 bugs and includes 84 security updates. Installation images are available for multiple architectures, including 64-bit (amd64), 32-bit (i386), PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian (ppc64el), IBM System z (s390x), and various MIPS and ARM configurations. Live images for 64-bit systems come with several desktop environments, such as KDE Plasma 5.27.5 LTS, GNOME 43.9, Xfce 4.18, Cinnamon 5.6.8, MATE 1.26.0, LXQt 1.2.0, and LXDE 0.10.1. A "Standard" live ISO image without a graphical environment is also available.
Furthermore, Debian 11.10 "Bullseye" has been released, featuring 62 bug fixes and 76 security updates. Current Debian users can update their systems by running sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade or using a graphical package manager like Synaptic.
