Wipr has released a major update to its ad and tracker blocking application
Wipr, an app known for its lightweight ad and tracker blocking capabilities on iOS and macOS, has announced the release of Wipr 2. This latest version leverages Safari's newest features to enhance blocking efficiency and privacy. In addition to ads, popups, trackers, and other nuisances, the blocklist now targets annoyances such as newsletter banners, video popups, and excessive sign-up prompts.
Wipr 2 introduces advanced page element removal, allowing for the deletion of elements based on text, style, or hierarchy, and can even remove scripts before they are parsed by the browser. The redesigned user interface immediately displays the app's status upon launch, indicating updates, blocklist availability, or any errors.
Accessibility features have been improved, supporting VoiceOver, voice control, and various visual adjustments. The help screen provides live topics and solutions to common issues. The app detects and communicates misconfigurations non-intrusively, offering clear explanations and solutions, and a new system for issue reporting has been implemented, eliminating the need for email correspondence.
Wipr 2, priced at $4.99, is a universal app compatible with iOS 17 and macOS 14 Sonoma, allowing installation on all Apple devices with a single purchase. It is available for pre-order now, with a release date set for November 12.
