WhatsApp launches voice message transcription for iOS and Android globally
WhatsApp is rolling out a new transcription feature for voice messages on iOS and Android platforms worldwide. First reported 4 months ago, the feature will automatically convert voice messages into text, which will appear below the audio clip for the recipient. The transcription is done directly on the user's device, ensuring privacy and security, as the content remains inaccessible to anyone else, including WhatsApp.
To activate the feature, users need to manually enable it in the WhatsApp settings under "Chats" "Voice message transcripts," as it is initially turned off. This feature is designed to improve the convenience of voice messaging, especially in situations where listening is challenging, such as in noisy environments or during travel.
Initially, Android users will have language support for English, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, and Hindi, . WhatsApp plans to expand language support in the future to accommodate more users.
Telegram had that really long now.
THIS IS A GODSEND!!! I get so annoyed with people who communicate via voice messages, because I can't go back and search for that message later. This. Is. AWESOME!
