Vanilla OS 2 'Orchid': A complete rewrite of this immutable Linux distribution
Vanilla OS, a lightweight immutable Linux distribution known for its simplicity, has announced the release of its version 2, dubbed “Orchid”. This ambitious release represents a complete rewrite of the project, integrating a significant amount of new technologies developed from scratch.
The new Vanilla OS 2 “Orchid” is built on the Linux Kernel 6.4 and comes with GNOME 44 pre-installed. However, users can expect that the final Orchid release will include the most recent GNOME 45 desktop environment, reflecting its commitment to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies.
Currently, Vanilla OS 2 “Orchid” is in its alpha stage, with the beta version scheduled for release on January 30th. After this date, the project will enter a feature freeze phase, shifting the focus to bug fixes and refining the user experience. This approach is aimed at ensuring a seamless experience for users when the final version of Orchid is released later.
