TikTok launches Music Streaming Platform in Brazil and Indonesia to compete with Apple Music and Spotify
TikTok has launched a music streaming platform called TikTok Music in Brazil and Indonesia, aiming to compete with Apple Music and Spotify. The new platform offers a large selection of songs and allows users to create personal libraries, made possible through partnerships with major record labels such as Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music.
TikTok Music, aimed at a teenage audience, offers features inspired by the main TikTok app, such as song recommendations based on viral videos, collaborative playlists, and the ability to import music libraries from other platforms. Users can also search for songs based on lyrics and identify songs they hear, similar to Apple's Shazam (which, ironically, announced its integration with TikTok a few days ago). The platform promotes social interaction, allowing users to comment on songs and albums and discover new music by scrolling vertically.
Currently, TikTok Music is only available in two regions, with a monthly subscription fee of $3.49 in Brazil, the same as Apple Music's pricing in the same country. The release dates for other countries, including the US, have not been disclosed. Despite competition from Spotify and Apple Music, which have millions of paid subscribers, TikTok's existing brand popularity could potentially give it an advantage in the music streaming market. We'll see.
