Google tests AI-Generated video backgrounds for Google Meet in Workspace Labs
Google is currently testing AI-generated video backgrounds for Google Meet within its Workspace Labs. The goal is to achieve similar results to what services like ZoomScape.ai offer, but in this case, integrated within Meet itself without the need for a third-party tool. The feature enables users to alter their backgrounds by clicking on the effects icon in the preview video and entering a prompt for the preferred background, and there are several categories to choose from in the AI-generated backgrounds.
Users can switch their backgrounds during a meeting using the "Apply vision effects" option in the three dots menu. However, this feature is being introduced gradually and may not be available to all users yet. In May, Google started accepting signups for its Search and AI Workspace Labs, allowing users to partake in AI experiments such as the Bard chatbot and NotebookLM feature. The Google Gemini chatbot generates AI-based summaries, and NotebookLM functions as a personal assistant by analyzing documents. Interested individuals can apply to join the Workspace Labs testing program on Google's website.
As per Google's privacy policy, human reviewers read, annotate, and process data from Workspace Labs to improve the features. Google's AI tools are in competition with Microsoft 365's AI Copilot suite, which we recently learned will start charging $30 per month per person for business use, and from which we can expect a similar implementation in Microsoft Teams
