JetBrains launches AI Assistant for enhanced developer productivity in coding tasks
JetBrains, a leading vendor in developer productivity tools, has officially launched its AI Assistant, a generative AI and large language model (LLM) driven coding assistant. This AI-powered assistant is now accessible to millions of developers worldwide who use JetBrains' integrated development environments (IDEs) and coding tools. The AI Assistant is included in a single monthly or yearly subscription, making it available for both individual customers and organizations.
In its announcement, JetBrains stated that this is “a logical next step in the JetBrains mission to improve your developer experience by automating common and repetitive tasks, enabling you to stay in the flow and focus on the big picture”.
The AI Assistant is integrated into the 2023.3 versions of all JetBrains commercial IDEs, including IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, PhpStorm, WebStorm, ReSharper, Fleet, and more. It supports a wide array of languages that these products cater to.
The JetBrains AI Assistant provides several functionalities. These include an AI chat, a 'Suggest Refactoring' feature, code completion, a 'Write Documentation' tool, a utility to generate commit messages, among others.
The AI Assistant is a supplemental feature and requires a JetBrains AI service subscription. It is currently available to customers of paid editions of JetBrains products.
