JetBrains introduces Mellum, a new LLM integrated into its AI Assistant for developers

JetBrains has unveiled Mellum, a new proprietary large language model (LLM) aimed at enhancing AI-driven development tools. Available exclusively through the JetBrains AI Assistant, Mellum offers advanced code completion capabilities that are faster and more contextually aware than traditional models.

Unlike typical LLMs, Mellum is optimized specifically for coding, with a focus on reducing latency to provide near-instant suggestions. It currently supports languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, and PHP. Mellum's integration with JetBrains IDEs allows it to deliver tailored code suggestions, leveraging both client-side and server-side AI logic for improved development efficiency.
