Fedora 39 launches with Linux Kernel 6.5, GNOME 45, and much more
Fedora 39 has been launched, arriving just a day after the Fedora project marked its 20th anniversary. The new release, based on the Linux Kernel 6.5, brings significant enhancements to the Fedora Workstation, including the integration of GNOME 45. This update promises improved performance and numerous usability enhancements, such as a new workspace switcher and a significantly enhanced image viewer.
In addition to GNOME 45, Fedora 39 provides updated desktop flavors, featuring KDE Plasma, Xfce, Cinnamon, and others. The release is also complemented by a slew of updated packages, including gcc 13.2, binutils 2.40, glibc 2.38, gdb 13.2, and rpm 4.19. Notably, Fedora 39 has also updated popular programming language stacks, specifically Python 3.12 and Rust 1.73.
The latest version of Inkscape, a widely-used vector graphics illustration and drawing tool, is now included in Fedora 39. This inclusion adds to the robust suite of tools and applications that Fedora provides to its users.
