Evernote tests limited free plan with 50-note cap

Evernote is reportedly testing a limited free plan, allowing users only one notebook and 50 notes. The proposed changes were communicated to some users through an in-app message, offering a 40% discount to upgrade to a paid plan for unlimited notes and notebooks. The company clarified that these changes are not yet finalized and are only being tested on less than 1% of its free users.

Despite the proposed restrictions, users would still be able to manage, edit, and delete existing notes, but creation of new ones would be limited unless they upgrade to a paid plan.

Evernote, which has seen decreased popularity, was bought by Bending Spoons, leading to layoffs and a shift of development operations to Europe. The new restrictions may drive free users to alternative note-taking apps, such as Logseq, Standard Notes, Joplin, Obsidian or Notion.
