Developer of uBlock Origin has ceased development on uMatrix
Raymond Hill, developer behind the immensely popular content blocker uBlock Origin, has announced that one of his other content blocking projects, uMatrix, will no longer be developed.
Hill, whose online username is gorhill, revealed uMatrix's cessation of development via a comment on GitHub. Hill states the following:
"I've archived uMatrix's repo, I can't and won't be spending any more time on this project... Whoever is free to fork under a new name -- I may re-open and resume development in some future if ever I feel for it."
Unlike uBlock Origin, which is intended for even novice web users and aims to block any advertising and tracking content, uMatrix is intended for advanced users that want to block specific net requests for elements by destination, source, and type in a easy-to-manage point-and-click matrix format.
uBlock Origin will continue to be developed, and for those looking for more robust control over what web elements don't load while still being actively supported, NoScript provides more granular functionality.
