Android P new features detailed, beta available for select phones

Google I/O 2018 has wrapped up its first day, and a whole host of news has been revealed alongside it. This includes more details about the upcoming update to the company's flagship operating system, Android P. The Verge has published an article detailing all of the new features and renovations that the latest version of the world's most popular mobile operating system.

In the article, The Verge's Dieter Bohn highlights features such as a new usage dashboard that tracks the amount of time the Android device has been used overall, as well as the number of notifications received and app usage broken down both in pie chart form and by hourly usage. Android P also introduces more control over notifications and enhanced Do Not Disturb settings that completely disable said notifications. Throw in features such as redone gesture-based navigation with the home button and user interface overhauls, and this release becomes arguably one of the operating system's most major in some time.

Google hosted a 34-minute session discussing these new features at its I/O 2018 conference. A beta release of Android P is now available on the following handsets:
