Advantages of Yahoo! Mail:

  • 500 Disposable Adresses, free UNLIMITED Storage space:
The main advantage of Yahoo-Mail are the max. 500 "Disposable E-Mail-Addresses", which you can change or create very easy, if you are flooded with Spam-Mails, or if you want to avoid the danger to be flooded for certain purposes.
  • Unfortunatelly no direct link for very rapid editing these flexible Mail-Addresses:

Disadvantages of Yahoo! Mail:

  • No IMAP,
  • sending away from "Disposable Address" only from Web-Interface,
  • no POP3-access via email client:
Sending away from an Yahoo-"Disposable Address" is only possible from Yahoo-Mail Web-Interface, not from Mozilla Thunderbird.
The ability to access Yahoo! Mail via a POP3 email client (such as Outlook or Outlook Express) is only available to customers of the premium Yahoo! Mail Plus service ( $19.99 per year).
If you have not purchased the Yahoo! Mail Plus service, you will be unable to retrieve messages via an email client: , .
  • Yahoo! Mail as well as Yahoo! Mail Plus do not support IMAP access from other Mail-Clients: .
  • The only Free-Mail service with UNLIMITED storage AND POP3- AND IMAP support seems to be AOL-Mail.

On the case itself Yahoo!
Mail is quite good, I used it for several of my projects as the main one. But you are right that most of the benefits you get after buying a premium account. So if someone is looking for a free mailbox, it's better to take something else. 500 "Disposable E-Mail-Addresses" is really a very cool feature.
