Basic word processor included in Windows since 1995, providing editing and formatting for rich text and plain text files, ribbon UI from Windows 7, limited image support, basic print and layout tools, free with the OS, and now deprecated in Windows 11.
Microsoft announced the discontinuation of WordPad and removed it in October 2024 with Windows 11 version 24H2

Its proprietary software, but it loads fast, isn't full of glitches like Abi, and minimalistic. It's a great, uncluttered app for .rtf/.doc.
Too bad they are removing support for it.
For a text editor with .rtf/images, OnlyOffice seems to make a good substitute. My current favorite is HS Writer. When Wordpad is discontinued, it may mess up functionality of a number of word processor type programs that rely on it's engine.. though there are a number of programs do not rely on it.
RIP. Never really used it much though. Notepad def
Me neither before.. cold and yucky, but now I find myself wanting to do .rtf and reconsidered.
