What is Votepit?

Votepit is a feature-voting and feedback board for software makers and product teams, and for other groups that collect ideas from their members, such as clubs, event organisers and internal teams. People post ideas and vote them up or down. Every idea shows a net score and a consensus share (the share of votes that agree), so broad support is easy to tell apart from an idea that splits your users, and a loud minority does not look like demand.

How it works: you create a board and share it. Voters sign in with a one-time link sent by email, so nobody needs a password, and board owners can also allow voting without an account. You give each idea a status (open, planned, in progress, done or declined), and the public roadmap shows what is planned, in progress and done. Email addresses are stored only as keyed hashes, not in plain text.

Key features:

  • Up- and down-votes with a consensus bar and a "Controversial" sort next to Top and Newest
  • One vote per person and idea, enforced on the server
  • Idea statuses, tags, comments with reactions, and duplicate suggestions while an idea is being typed
  • Public roadmap as a list, columns or a Gantt timeline
  • Team roles and invitations, moderation tools and a built-in report flow
  • Agent API: REST API, MCP server and command-line tool with board-scoped tokens (Pro plan on Votepit Cloud)
  • Data export (JSON/CSV), optional two-factor authentication, English and German interface

Two editions: Votepit Cloud runs in the browser and is hosted in Germany, with a free plan and paid Lite and Pro subscriptions. The Community Edition is free, MIT-licensed and runs on standard PHP/MySQL web hosting without Docker; its source code is on GitHub. Cloud data can be exported at any time and used to move to the self-hosted edition.
