Comments about TrueCrypt as an Alternative to VeraCrypt
You are right Christian. They have cracked it most likely because when it was discontinued, the owners made the source code public and so anyone could sit and crack it if they like. Also, since Veracrypt is its successor, and since it's based upon Truecrypt, you can presume that Veracrypt is also compromised since the source code was not rewritten from the ground up.
I have heard that TrueCrypt has already been cracked by law enforcement, or could have been potentially been cracked by law enforcement.

Most users think TrueCrypt is a great VeraCrypt alternative.
- TrueCrypt is Free and Proprietary
- TrueCrypt is Security-focused

Probably still secure in most cases, but has been discontinued and VeraCrypt is its successor. Virtually no reason to use TrueCrypt today, as VeraCrypt is more secure and has fixed several TrueCrypt vulnerabilities.
