    Probably still secure in most cases, but has been discontinued and VeraCrypt is its successor. Virtually no reason to use TrueCrypt today, as VeraCrypt is more secure and has fixed several TrueCrypt vulnerabilities.

    You are right Christian. They have cracked it most likely because when it was discontinued, the owners made the source code public and so anyone could sit and crack it if they like. Also, since Veracrypt is its successor, and since it's based upon Truecrypt, you can presume that Veracrypt is also compromised since the source code was not rewritten from the ground up.

    I have heard that TrueCrypt has already been cracked by law enforcement, or could have been potentially been cracked by law enforcement.

    If you are on Linux, dont bother with Veracrypt.

    Encrypting your drive on startup using LUKS is a one-click action (for example on Kubuntu) and works flawlessly. Other encrypted drives automatically ask for a password when plugged in, that can be stored in your local password manager.

    Veracrypt is such a pain to use in comparison, although you have way more control over the encryption mechanism and you can add Entropy by wiggling your mouse, which is nice.

    BitLocker is the most audited disk encryption tool out there despite being closed-source. (People used to assume "open-source" means "well-audited," until Heartbleed and Log4Shell happened.) BitLocker integrates well with the OS. If you use it on a virtual disk, it behaves exactly like VeraCrypt, but with the benefit of TPM.

    It is a part of Windows, except of the Home edition. Microsoft has improved the new encryption algorithm. Easy to turn on/off.
