A great tool but it's now discontinuated since version 3.1.0
I've tested out Wamp and Xamp before. Those are good, but I think the winner is UwAmp. It doesn't take almost any resources from OS and best of all it's portable! I have used it quite much now and really can recommend it for basic server usage with Apache, MySQL, and PHP workflow. Because it's portable you can use it with dropbox or similar cloud drive tool, so you have server and pages always with you...
Useally i work with WampServer , but UwAmp is absolutely fantastic. The best portable Server - Apache MySQL PHP.
It is indeed good and portable, so you can just keep using it in case of Windows reinstallation, but it has own draws. The app does not support DPI scaling, making it ugly on high DPI screens and making it impossible to launch editors to edit config files. It also does not support MariaDB. There is no option to ditch MySQL at all in case when you use other databases, like FirebirdSQL in my case. It does not support PostgreSQL and FirebirdSQL. At least just to control services along-side with web service. Speaking of web service there is no option for nginx. It does not simplify hassle with php extensions. In general UwAmp seem no longer developed.
Was using a different portable web server but couldn't access it at work and wasn't sure why or how to fix. Tried UwAmp and had the same problem but it gave some tips on how to fix. That helped to get me up and running in no time. Forget the old server, I'm sticking with UwAmp.
Before I was using Wamp as easyphp was too buggy and disastrous for updates and pass on a higher release. Wamp was the best environment for a lightweight php development, comprehensive, simple and ready to use. But since the passage of PHP5.3 to 5.4 and the development of Wamp was completely disastrous. It became very restrictive power switcher a php version to another without encountering problems.
So I decided to go back in UwAmp Server which had made good progress since then, and there is no picture! UwAmp really TOP WampServer and bye bye, hello UwAmp Server! :) UwAmp not only can be used from a USB stick ideal for demonstrations project portable version! But also installed desktop version.
**UwAmp is already configured for the usual developments such as URL rewriting, sqlite, xDebug, Cachegrind etc ... while under Wamp we always need to set these things.
A real treat!
No hassle - download the RAR, extract, double-click and you're running. No headaches, start working on your PHP & MySQL work in seconds (no config files to mess with). Program runs in tray and uses almost no resources. Woot!
