What is Transnomino?
Transnomino - A batch rename utility for the Mac Rename many files at once, simple, powerful... and it's free!
Transnomino offers a set of renaming actions, ranging from simple text replacements to more complex replacements using Regular Expressions.
Any number of these actions can be placed in sequence and you can directly preview the results while you create them. Each of the renaming actions can operate on the Filename, Path or Extension of the files.
Currently it supports:
- Simple Find / Replace
- Case changes like Upper/lower-case and Capitalise
- Numbering
- Insert
- Trim
- Regular Expressions
- Prefix, to add text to the beginning of filenames
- Suffix, to add text to the end of filenames
File Attributes like date-created, ID3 and EXIF data can be added to the filename as well.

this program has access to most of the EXIF data that is recorded in your file. So for example if you shoot with GPS turned on, you can put the GPS info in your filename, or path. also has all kinds of details about the camera, image technicalities, and of course every way to slice and dice a date.
ALSO it supports tags for music and video like track, artist, language, copyright so on.
From my point of view this is the best tool available and significantly underrated since it is able to handle directories and subdirectories and has powerful regular expressions and offers renaming with multiple iterative steps. Really impressive. Searched and did not find any other tool nearly as powerful. btw... has also access to EXIF data.
I have been using Transnomino for a long time and find it better than paid for apps. The developer has always been responsive and very polite. If you are looking for a file renamer, I really like how you can create "recipes" that you can save and use different "recipes" depending on what kind of renaming you need to do. Very well done and so many options, but not cluttered. Very easy to use.
