What is TheTab.Ninja?
TheTab.Ninja is an open-source browser extension that replaces the new tab page with a customizable launch page for managing bookmarks and open tabs. It is built for people who keep many tabs and links across different projects and want a single, organized home for them instead of browser clutter.
Bookmarks are grouped into collections, and collections are organized into workspaces (called Spaces) for contexts like work, personal, or hobbies. A Canvas view maps the whole setup as a graph, with each workspace as a hub and its collections orbiting around it. Any collection can be launched as a browser tab group in one click, and a side panel lists your currently open tabs for quick switching.
Its main distinction is privacy. Instead of syncing through a company server, TheTab.Ninja stores and synchronizes your data through your own GitHub repository or Google Drive, so your bookmarks never leave storage you control. Sync is manual to keep the page fast, and a Sync Time Machine keeps every sync as a restore point, with optional daily or weekly backups saved to your Downloads folder.
For navigation it offers a command palette (Ctrl/Cmd+K) and a real-time search box with operators: # filters collections, % searches everything, @ filters by tag, term1|term2 matches either term, and ? and ! send a query straight to Google or ChatGPT. A Zen Mode strips the page back to a clock and a search box for focused work. Other touches include dark mode, a wallpaper gallery, custom background images, and custom CSS, plus one-step import from Toby for anyone migrating from another extension.
TheTab.Ninja is free and open source, and runs on Chromium-based browsers including Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
