As of writing, this is the best modern alternative to the original "Notational Velocity" by Zachary Schneirov. Development is on-going and the app is largely bug-free in it's current state.
I started using The Archive in March 2019 because nvALT was crashing often and the app behavior/UI was reliably buggy. I needed something better, but the same.
Since then I have had only 1 major complaint when compared to the original NV: launch startup time is kinda slow... slow enough to have a splash screen. It's not the worse thing ever, but one of the reasons I loved the original NV app so much was how instantaneous the experience was, launching included.
Bugs get squashed, thoughtful features are added, yet the experience has stayed the same for the past year. That's excellent.
There's a 60-day trial, and yes it costs money, but in this day and age it pays to have functional software when you need it most.
