What is Tasks.txt?
Tasks.txt is a task management system operating on a plain text file. The system discourages forward planning, instead promoting a focus on the immediate task at hand. This is to prevent the common issue of postponing and rescheduling tasks. Tasks.txt uses a three-zone system: DONE, NEXT, and BACKLOG.
The DONE zone shows completed tasks, the NEXT zone displays the current task, and the BACKLOG zone holds all other tasks. Users select a task, move it to NEXT, work on it, and mark it as done.
Tasks.txt prioritizes user data ownership. All tasks are stored in a plain text file on your Mac, accessible in any editor. The system is compatible with Dropbox, iCloud, Git, and Terminal. There's no proprietary database, reducing vendor lock-in risk.
Tasks.txt also features a SCRATCHPAD for notes or ideas. The software is built on Swift, eliminating the need for Electron or a web wrapper for quick access and no keystroke lag. The software is compatible with macOS 13+ and free to use. Tasks.txt is ideal for those seeking simplicity in their productivity tools.
