Syncwerk is a Germany-based syncing application similar to but more flexible than Dropbox. It uses an open source client that allows various folders to be synced and, optionally, encrypted to restrict access.
Syncwerk is a service operated by Syncwerk GmbH. It's a synchronization tool similar to Dropbox, SugarSync, Box, etc. It uses an open source client. The user many opt to have synchronized files from the computer to be hosted on Syncwerk's servers in Germany, or to host Syncwerk themselves on their own server.
Additionally, the client allows users to encrypt folders locally (before they get sent to the cloud). This encrypts the file contents, although presently not the metadata.
User data may be accessed using the client or via the web interface.
