Stoic Player

Stoic Player is a native macOS video player supporting Dolby Vision Profiles 5 and 8.1, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. It processes Dolby Vision frame by frame to prevent the green and purple colour cast that Profile 5 can show in some players. Video is tone-mapped to the connected display's HDR headroom and updated when display brightness or connected displays change. A live inspector shows the format, colour space, scene peak, headroom and dropped frames.

It opens MKV, MP4, MOV, WebM, M2TS, MPEG-TS, AVI, MXF, FLV and OGG files, and supports multiple audio tracks, including E-AC-3/Atmos, TrueHD and DTS. Supported subtitle formats include SRT, ASS/SSA, WebVTT and PGS. On supported Macs, it provides hardware decoding for HEVC, H.264, VP9 and AV1, with Metal rendering.

Features include automatic matching-subtitle detection, speech-based subtitle synchronization, and dialogue search across a library through Find a Scene. It also includes a menu bar player, Picture in Picture, cinema mode, frame stepping, A–B looping, clip export, annotations, moment cards, picture and audio controls, customizable shortcuts, private folders, privacy mode with a panic key, duplicate-film detection, Chromecast and DLNA casting, and HTTP, HLS and RTSP stream playback.
