Comments and Reviews
This is the best program for viewing documents on Windows. Lightweight RAM, perfect stability, easy settings, support for a huge number of formats. Unfortunately, it is not developed and abandoned as of an 2020..
Still available from STDU Viewer, Home page
Freeware for private non-commercial or educational use.

Used to be the best document viewer but now it's time to forget it and go futher. Since the project discontinued many years ago numerous bugs and crashes happen.
Best document viewer ever. Supports tonns of formats.
It's got a great UI and the UI/UX is similar enough to Acrobat Reader DC that you can migrate without a learning curve. It's also more lightweight and thus efficient and quick. And it can be used to read many different formats.
Fast and reliable, but no editing or commenting. Opens 50 pdfs without a sweat, adobe often crashes with five. Tabbed documents. Utilitarian interface. Session restore. Portable version. Active development. Free for home and education. No bullshit. Recommendable.
Update May 2018: It seems STDU Viewer is no longer in active development; their news page says last updated in Apr 2015. There is a rare bug where sometimes after scrolling a page fails to render.
I still believe this is the best option if all you need is a viewer. Zoom level "Fit width (advanced)", brightness controls, and regex search are rare features. It also has highlighting and bookmarks, but consider Citavi instead if want those kinds of features.
