SwiftRead
Speed through news, emails, blog posts, online textbooks—any text in your browser—at 2x or 3x the speed, or even faster.
What is SwiftRead?
SwiftRead (formerly known as Spreed) uses a technique called rapid serial visual presentation, or RSVP, to help you read text faster. By presenting text this way, you reduce sub-vocalization ("sounding the words" out), unconcious re-reading, and eliminate eye movements, which are the main things holding back your reading speed.

This extension is terrific!! I absolutely love it. I use Project Gutenberg books with this & practice speed reading. It allows you to set font size, WPM, words per line & more. Fully customizable & free!
This seems to work pretty well, but the timing for words is a little strange? it pauses on long words about twice as long as the short words, which is just a bit longer than what feels natural. The only option in the settings is to turn this completely off, instead of adjusting it a little bit.
It's worth noting that in the UI for this chrome extension, there's a button that says "Click here to upgrade" and links to ShiftReader

big utility for internet navigation and fast reading.
