What is Skales?

Skales operates as a potent, self-governing AI entity that resides directly on your desktop. It is designed for users seeking the benefits of advanced AI automation without the usual complex setup—eliminating the need for Docker, Python environments, or terminal usage. To get started, the user simply downloads the .exe or .dmg, installs it within 30 seconds, and begins automating everyday tasks.

Key features of Skales include the BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) functionality, which allows direct connection to OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or running entirely offline with local Ollama models. The ReAct Autopilot feature enables Skales to autonomously plan, carry out, and self-correct across multiple steps when given a complex goal. Skales also offers browser automation, with built-in Playwright integration enabling website navigation, clicking, scraping, and screenshot capturing. It also integrates natively with Gmail, Google Calendar, Telegram, WhatsApp, and X/Twitter. Moreover, Skales possesses a self-coding skill AI, meaning that if it lacks a specific tool to complete your task, it can write its own Node.js code, sandbox it, and hot-reload a new skill instantly. It also has a bi-temporal memory feature that remembers your context, preferences, and facts across different conversations.

Skales prioritizes privacy and operates as a 100% local-first application. All user data, memory, and settings are stored locally on the user's machine (~/.skales-data). API keys communicate directly with the user's chosen provider, without the involvement of intermediaries or hidden servers. Furthermore, Skales is source-available (BSL-1.1), allowing users to inspect the code to verify its security.
