What is screencap.me?

screencap.me — Screen Recorder + Editor A clean, open-source browser app for capturing your screen + mic, importing clips, adding title cards, trimming, and exporting one stitched video—no FFmpeg, installs, or backend needed.

Why use it • Start recording instantly; each stop becomes a new clip • Import local video files to combine with recordings • Add title blocks with editable text, fonts, colors, alignment, duration, and optional background images (cover/contain) • Trim clip start/end with drag handles or numeric fields; reorder via drag or arrow controls • Optional Webcam PiP for floating face-cam while recording • Mic offset (ms) to sync mic audio with PiP if the camera lags • Export the final stitched video fully in-browser (canvas + MediaRecorder) as WebM with live render preview + cancel • Save/load projects as a single JSON file with all clips/assets embedded • Zero build steps—just open index.html on localhost

Quick start

Serve the repo locally (screen capture requires a secure context), e.g. any simple local server.

Click Start Screen + Mic and grant permissions.

Hit Start Clip to record; stop via the full-screen overlay. Import files with Import Clip.

Add title cards via Add Title Block and edit inline.

Trim with handles or numeric fields; drag to reorder; rename clips inline.

Enable Webcam PiP if needed and adjust Mic offset.

Click Export Final Video and download when the render modal finishes.

Editing & workflow • Clip list supports drag-and-drop or arrow reordering, inline names, and delete controls • Video clips offer play/pause on thumbnail tap, trim overlays, and numeric start/end fields • Title blocks show a live preview and controls for font, size, color, alignment, duration, and background fit • Export runs entirely in-browser with progress, ETA, and live preview (plus cancel) • Mic offset applies when capture is idle and PiP is active

Project files • Export Project saves a JSON with embedded clips, trims, order, and title block assets • Import Project restores everything exactly as saved • All processing stays local—no uploads or server round-trips

Notes • Works in modern Chromium-based browsers • Screen capture may require selecting a tab/window and enabling audio • Everything is local; close the tab to clear captures unless you export your project or final video
