What is Premation?

Premation (premation.com) is a free, open-source, AI-native desktop motion graphics and visual effects studio for macOS and Windows. Licensed under the GNU AGPL v3.0, it is built as a direct, high-performance alternative to Adobe After Effects—using the same composition-and-layer mental model, timeline conventions, and keyboard shortcuts so motion designers can transition without relearning their craft. As of version 1.0.1, Premation combines traditional keyframe precision (a dual value/velocity Bézier graph editor, 2.5D cameras, skeletal rigging, and 206 GPU shaders) with a local AI document interface that allows external tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Antigravity to create and edit real timeline layers, keyframes, and rigs directly.
