Kofax PaperPort

I was a big fan of Paperport in its early years. After it is bought by nuance, it went downhill. What is most dangerous now is that it corrupts my pdfs which renders them useless. stay away

God back when it was Visioneer PaperPort used to be the go-to for home scanning. I loved it and used the hell out of it back in the day. Then Nuance bought it, and the Nuance sold it to Kofax, who doesn't seem to care that half the links point back to Nuance for support and functionality.

I downloaded the trial of Paperport Pro and it was literally dead on arrival.

Time to bail. They're a lost cause.

Yep. Gonna have to agree with the consensus here. Good idea, poor execution of said idea. It really is a good concept, but the program is truly hideous.

Anyway, my point is that this program is ugly, unnecessary heavy and probably won't speed up your document organizing. :)

The idea behind it is good, but the program is not very good.

The point with a program like this, is that it should speed up your document organizing. For me, it was about speeding up the process of scanning different things to different folders. I scan a lot of papers. The integrated Windows scanner feature has too many choices you have to make every time you scan and always starts the process over again for every page you scan.

PaperPort can scan multiple pages in fewer steps. The problem is: it disconnects from my HP ScanJet 4600 (WIA) between every page scan when doing multiple page scans. I have to enter the add page dialogue again every time. PaperPort also deselects its own scan window every time, so I have to Alt + tab twice to get it selected again. (Oh, forgot to mention: I only use keyboard shortcuts. Everything else is slow when it comes to routine work like this program is ment to do.) All in all, the scanner feature doesn't save me from much work. I like that it recognizes the characters and saves it to multiple-page PDFs, though.

The program is also built like a file browser. I have used the program for some time now, and I still haven't figured out how the file navigation works. The buttons are hidden away in a ribbon tab instead of being permanently available, and it doesn't use any standard Windows shortcuts for navigation at all. That sort of throws away the point of making an alternative to the Windows file explorer. The Windows file explorer is great! Why fix something that isn't broken...?
